The Pros and Cons of Hiring a Corporate Event Planner

Date: 19.11.17

There is always a debate about whether or not it’s necessary to hire an event planner for important events or corporate functions. We’re not here to convince you one way or the other but we’ve put together a list of the primary pros and cons to help you decide whether an event planner would be beneficial to you.

What are the benefits?

  1. They have industry knowledge and connections

Event planners are incredibly familiar with the industry — it’s what they do for a living after all! They know what to organise and purchase for the event without batting an eyelid so you won’t forget to do anything.

  1. They have experience catering to every budget

An event planner will be able to put together your essentials and allocate the budget accordingly. They will guide you towards the best value products and services for your event, not the event you can’t afford.

  1. They will save you time

Putting on an even is time consuming. It is a huge job and organising in your spare time is not always practical. An event planner makes it their day job and so is available to make and take calls when all the businesses you need to contact are actually in their offices, shops or venues.

  1. They will ensure the event runs smoothly

These people are not beginners. Good event planners take pride in their job and do everything they possibly can to achieve perfection at each and every event they work on. This means that their planning is meticulous and you can be sure they will be doing their utmost to fix any problems that inevitably arise on the day.

What are the drawbacks?

  1. They are not cheap

Event planners are obviously an added expense, so it’s important to weigh up the cost of the planner versus the savings you’ll make both in regard to time and money.

  1. They often take over

While this could be the best possible outcome for many, some, who may like to have a bit more control, may perceive this as a major drawback. If this is you, you’ll have to decide just how much control and see whether you can stand to relinquish the control you’d be handing over.

  1. It’s the luck of the draw

Unless you hire the cream of the crop, it can be difficult to ascertain whether or not a planner is good at what they do. Even a gruelling interview process can result in hiring someone who is sloppy in their work or who has simply taken on too many jobs simultaneously.

  1. They may not understand your vison

Good event planners will do their best to understand the tone and feel you want the event to have; bad ones may not. When you hire an event planner you have to be prepared to be really specific about what you want or live with the fact that things may not go perfectly according to what you want or expect.
